Wellness "Influencer" Casey Means has been selected as the next US Surgeon General, despite having an inactive medical license. Her viewpoints range from nonsensical to absurdly dangerous.
I truly wish I’d written this. The list of things we should do, have, cost money and it reminds me of a saying which I’ll probably screw up, but it’s because the rich always want MORE. I’m grateful for this article.
I too left the wellness world after COVID. I could not understand how everything else but the virus was the enemy. Great article. Thank you for your work in trying to help us.💕
Exactly! They can (and do) blame everything but the virus. They will even blame the “spike protein” in the vaccine while completely ignoring that it’s also in the virus when you catch it. It’s so frustrating.
This resonates with me so much. From losing a parent at age 19, to distrust of allopathic medicine and pharmaceuticals, to crystals and supplements, and full circle to needing the knowledge and expertise of trained medical professionals, both for me (age 66), and for my Long Covid severely disabled daughter (age 35, disabled since 2020). Thank you for writing this. It should be shared everywhere.
I’m so sorry about your daughter, I became disabled by MECFS at 39 (from mono not covid) and it’s so hard, my 30s were the best & I wanted more . . .
Anyway, me it was when my cat was dying of cancer a few years later. I had become so frustrated with the medical system and my own chronic illness I was trying to do woo woo for myself, but when my cat got sick I did all the meds I could afford. And when I saw how drastically helpful the prednisone was for him (not for the cancer but his quality of life for his last weeks) I started praising “big Pharma” every time someone tried to tell me to do woo for myself.
Our pets can be our guiding angels, can't they? I, too, have turned to many therapies for aging pets, but have to say that the ones that helped the most were prescribed meds from my highly educated, licensed DVM. My best wishes to you for recovery.
I’m so sorry that our stories are so similar, but I’m glad the article resonated with you! Hopefully it provides comfort to others who’ve been down the rabbit hole and felt similarly used and abandoned.
I think part of the reason people fear disability is because they can see how we're treated by society, how we struggle to stay alive. The irony being that if every disabled person, and every predisabled person was adequately supported, a lot of the hardship that comes with disability would disappear, and there would be a lot less to fear. Obviously being disabled can still be painful and affect your quality of life, but with support, that part of disability (the actual disability) is a lot easier to manage.
Yep if we had work from home and if I wasn’t treated like crap for using intermittent FMLA time when I became disabled suddenly I might not have ever had to go on disability.
And even then, after I got Medicare and got well enough to work a part-time job I had one for almost 3 years until my boss decided that nobody had to wear masks in the lobby if they wanted to use the lobby, because the CDC said people didn’t have to wear masks anymore. So I had to quit because I wasn’t willing to get sick for a part-time job.
But it was nice having a little money every week in addition to my disability check. It didn’t come close to even trial work period amounts so was just “extra” & it was really nice to have cash for groceries weekly rather than budget out a whole month at a time.
A well composed warning to all, thank you for this. Surely there are many other candidates more suited to the position who can better promote the best aspects from all fields of medicine.
Was wondering if you were going to write about vaccines at some point? I've grown so weary of all the misinformation going around, and of people comparing covid shots with only a year or so of testing with others that have been around for decades and helped essentially eradicate some diseases (like measles)?
My doctor at the biggest hospital/clinic where I live actually started peddling some of those fancy "fix all" supplements to me. She said "For $80/month it would actually save you money on food" She didn't understand 2 things:
1. Food stamps won't buy supplements.
2. Peddling stuff like that would be against hospital policy. (I would think?)
I lost my faith in her after that, she didn't seem to have my interests in mind at all, nor my well-being.
I cried last summer because I wasted so much food because of crashes from chronic illness.
I would have great intentions, I would have a plan and a list, I would buy all kinds of fresh produce (and maybe meat still idk I gave it up last year at some point), then before I could recover from the exertion of getting the groceries I would be hit with a migraine that made me vomit for a few days.
Then when I recovered from that enough to prepare food half the stuff I bought couldn’t be used, or maybe it could have with lots of effort that My still queasy stomach and recovering from crash body wasn’t going to allow. Furthermore when you’re trying to start eating again after G.I. issues for days you don’t want to risk any kind of food poisoning at all.
Anyway, I got a lot of “can’t you just . . . ?” Like, can’t you just freeze it. Yes, yes some of it if I know this is coming I can even prep and freeze. Maybe. But no I can’t divide up packages of raw meat and freeze it when I’m in the middle of vomiting every time I think about drinking water. No.
But I got smart and I started dividing up the meat before I even put it away when I got home from the store. That didn’t stop me from defrosting it later, getting surprise vomiting, and still having to get rid of it (I cooked for the crows. If it wasn’t super gross but nothing I dared eat I would cook it with some expired pasta and bring it to the cemetery crows.)
Anyway, you get it, I just needed to add my rant to the part about why we can’t always eat healthier.
And as much as I hate plastic and extra packaging I’ve only found one brand of bread at Walmart that I know comes wrapped in the inner plastic so that when it’s delivered I know that no one has been able to touch it.
I rely on them for grocery delivery if I can’t go get it myself somewhere else, and I like to know that my bread is protected by more than just a twist tie. That leaves me one option. So I wish people would think of us in their quest to get rid of plastic.
If anyone reading this relies on Walmart plus for grocery delivery, its the Pepperidge farm homestyle version. Or maybe it’s called home slice? It’s weird bread, if you buy regular bread & it comes with an sealed inner plastic wrap please let me know what kind. The knock off Arnold version at Aldi does but actual Arnold brand does not.
A very well written article. I would like to see the entirety of the JFK Jr. interview if you have the link. I tried to google it and got other interviews. Thank you, for sharing this!

Thank you Eileen. That’s very kind. I agree that the rich will always want more, which is part of the reason we’re in this mess.

What a beautiful story Maggie! In many ways your cat saved you too!

Thank you as always for elucidating the very challenging times we are currently facing

Thanks for writing this. I hope more people become aware of what's happening.
